Bloxter – Manage the Block Reactor and Produce Energy
Review by on
Every game must have a story, and here is the story behind Bloxter:
“You have just been hired as a bloxter. Your job is simply to squeeze as much energy as possible out of one of the company’s old block reactors. Always keep your eyes open. There are many vaders in the surroundings. Also, remember not to overflow the reactor. If you do, you’re fired!”

Bloxter is similar to other 'falling blocks' games, like Tetris and Columns. The aim in this game is to form lines of the same color; when you do, those lines will disappear. The lines can be horizontal, vertical or diagonal.

In the game’s story vaders were mentioned. Vaders are aliens; they can be good aliens that help you out, or they can be evil aliens that, well, pose a threat to you. The vaders appear only when you play Boxer in Arcade Mode; they will not show up when you play the game in Puzzle Mode.

Passionate gamers who care about highscores and care even more about bragging about their highscores will like the fact that Bloxter comes with an import/export highscores feature. Regular players will like the fact that picking up the basics of playing Bloxter is a relatively straightforward matter (you should not have a problem if you played Tetris or Columns before). Don’t think that because picking up the basics is easy, you will be able to easily master the game. There are over 30 boards to go through and for each you will have to use a different strategy.

Before you go get Bloxter and put it to the test, take a look at the technical detail presented below:
Download – the download weighs in at 2.3MB, which is quite lightweight. At such a lightweight download size, it should only take a moment to get Bloxter off the web and onto your computer.
Supported OS – at the time of writing this and according to the developer, Bloxter provides support for Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7. The Mac version of Bloxter provides support for Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, 10.5 Leopard, and 10.6 Snow Leopard.
Limitations – 3 trial sessions.

Pros
  • Lightweight download
  • Easy to learn
  • More than 30 boards
  • Choose between Puzzle Mode and Arcade Mode
  • Works with Windows 7

Cons
  • Free to try
  • Nag screen
